Tanoshii Fun Camp - Day 1

Today was the first day of Tanoshii Camp. Austin was so nervous in the morning. Nervous about not knowing anyone and not knowing what to expect. I coaxed him to sit in the circle of chairs. He chose a seat in the middle of lots of empty chairs. He relaxed when a couple of camp counselors came to talk to him. They talked to him about Minions (he had a Minions tattoo on his arm) and asked him what else he was doing this summer. I left when he was excitedly telling them about his robotics camp.

In the afternoon, he looked like a different boy! All smiles, no more nerves and playing with a new friend. He said he had lots of fun and made two new friends, Trenton and Tyler. Turns out Trenton plays on FOR Flight, a basketball team that Austin has played against before. He said at breaks they talked about Minecraft and Skylanders. And at pickup time, Trenton asked me if he and Austin could have a play date right after camp.

The first day was about breaking into their teams and learning about a town in Japan that was hit with a big earthquake and the rest of the country came to help. The campers made tissue paper lanterns, a flower (that he gave to me) and folded origami. I overheard a lady saying that tomorrow will be about obon festivals.
